Imagine waking up after your dental treatment refreshed and with little memory of the procedure. Because you are completely comfortable during sedation dentistry, this option is a great alternative for long appointments or for anxious patients. The sedation dentistry offered at our Sun Prairie office is medically safe and performed with exacting professionalism and expertise.
Dental implants are an artificial tooth "root" used to support a restoration, like a crown, for a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. Implants provide patients with the strength and stability required to eat the food they love while preventing bone loss and maintaining facial features.
With missing teeth, a person's teeth can shift causing chewing and speech difficulties. Implants are generally the most conservative way to replace teeth. Using the same type of titanium metal used for artificial joints, dental implants provide the most natural feeling solution for missing teeth.
Implants can be used to support and anchor dentures also. Use of implants under dentures eliminate the shifting and reduce the bulkiness of the dentures that so many people dislike.

The use of lasers in dentistry is a growing part of dentistry. West Prairie Dental has multiple lasers that are used for biopsy procedures, soft tissue procedures, and in other restorative treatments. The tissues heal and recover faster from laser use than some traditional procedures.
LANAP Periodontal Therapy is an advanced non-surgical technique to treat moderate-to-severe periodontal disease. This technique can save teeth that could have previously been considered hopeless. A laser is used to gently remove diseased or harmful bacteria from the periodontal pocket. This allows your body to naturally heal the periodontal pocket and improve stability of the teeth. Orofacial pain problems, commonly called "TMJ", can arise from a number of conditions. A thorough exam will often times show that the discomfort is due to sore jaw muscles. One of the most effective treatments for this is splint therapy. Through the use of various splint designs such as an NTI or a full arch splint, West Prairie Dental can help you be comfortable and reduce your jaw discomfort.
At West Prairie Dental we offer nitrous oxide, also called “laughing gas” to our patients that need help with overcoming any anxiety or fears of dental treatment. It is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose to help you relax. It is not intended to put you to sleep. You will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have. Your dentist will ask you to breathe normally through your nose, and within a few short minutes you should start to feel the effects of the nitrous oxide. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Some people say their arms and legs feel heavy. Ultimately, you should feel calm and comfortable. The effects of nitrous oxide subside almost immediately, so you can return to normal activity following your dental appointment.
